FOUR DAYS A WEEK. At Our Fingertips. An Unexpected Place.

HG Moments and Creations.
Last week Esta shared the memories of her first creative moments and photography, inspiring the celebration of childhood creativity. We arrive at HG's playroom.

"He made another track," HG's Mom said, marveling at her four-year-old son's creation. "They're never the same. Last week he built one that wrapped around the entire living room. I don't know where he gets his ideas from."

I turned to HG and said, "You added a marble-garden roller coaster."

He nodded his head and smiled.

"How do you come up with these designs?" I said.

"I know, because I know."

He knows, because he knows. "Amazing. And you built this all by yourself?"

"I did," HG said and went to play. He drew one of his trains up and down the hills, through the tunnels, across the bridges, and past the plains.

I joined him, setting the marbles at the top of the roller coaster. We watched them travel without a glitch, gliding down to a garden emblazoned in blue, his favorite color.

Together we played. In a world HG built from the things he knew in his heart. Through the wonders of his eyes, his mom and I went to a whole new place, each curve and turn on the track, a boundless possibility.

Discovering a path.
The training wheels were set. The helmet secured.

"Are you ready?" Mom said.

HG nodded and tightened his grip on the handlebar. He pressed his feet on the pedals, ready to try, ready to learn. He saw his path.

Mom and Dad were behind him, cheering him on.

HG pushed his legs forward. He pedaled away and said, "I'm learning to ride a bike!"

With each spin of the wheel and motion, his confidence grew on a beautiful, October day.

"I go fast," HG said. "I am."

I love ...
HG, a contributor at four days a week, has started pre-K. Last month, HG turned to Mom and said, "I have a story."

"What is it?" Mom said.

"I love my friends. I love my school. I love my mommy and daddy. And I love you."

Mom smiled.

HG picked up a marker and wrote the story on green paper. HG handed the story to Mom and said, "Put it in my packpack. Please. I want to read it in school. Okay? Don't forget."

Today a special story comes to us from HG, our three-year-old contributor, at four days a week. Here, where we encourage and explore our passions. HG presents the first short story, IN THE COMBOS, at MONDAY MUSINGS:
In the Combos by HG.

I love this story for showing a budding three-year-old child's view of the world, imagination, and wonder. I love the innocence and coming together of all the parts that make up a story: a setting; every day life; until something happens that changes life; attempted efforts to put life back together; until finally the goal is achieved; and a resolution reached.

HG, thanks so much for daring to tell your story in front of class. Many thanks to your teacher for writing down the story you told. Another round of thanks to your mom and dad for sharing.

We clap our hands and celebrate a continuing path of exploration and daring to be ...
